Ten months across 19 states, time in Indonesia, and two entries I'm leaving on my resume. The infrastructure, language, and music came back with me, folks.
If you're reading my resume and wondering about those two Personal Sabbaticals, I put the dates there for you. May 2017 through March 2018, and May 2019 through February 2020.
Jobs get dates, and so does the part where I deliberately went somewhere else for a while. Leaving a blank space and making you play employment detective would be a pretty damned stupid way to explain it.
The first was a solo ten-month road trip across 19 states, studying DevOps[1]Ref. 1DevOps en.wikipedia.org practices and Infrastructure as Code[2]Ref. 2Infrastructure as Code en.wikipedia.org along the way. The second was international travel for cultural immersion, including Indonesia[3]Ref. 3Indonesia en.wikipedia.org, where I learned conversational Bahasa Indonesia[4]Ref. 4Bahasa Indonesia en.wikipedia.org. I returned early because of COVID-19.
I'm not dressing that trip up as ten months of technical training with scenery. It was a road trip. I learned things I went on to use, but I don't need to make it sound like a corporate workshop to justify being away. The dates are staying on the page.
