Weekly Padgett

Who is this man?

Patrick Padgett: telecom billing engineer, bass player, author, Tampa Bay. This is his blog. The shouting is a bit.

Okay. I am Pat Padgett. Forty-seven, Tampa Bay, Florida, by way of Camdenton, Missouri and fourteen years in a billing mediation cubicle in Overland Park, Kansas.

I ran dial-up ISPs as a teenager. I wrote a 291-line C program called corkscrew in the year 2000 and it is STILL in Debian, which is either a compliment to the program or an indictment of everybody who never replaced it. I spent fourteen years making sure Sprint billed the right people the right amount for the right phone calls, which is a job nobody outside telecom has heard of and everybody inside it is terrified of. I play bass. I have produced records in two languages. I met my favorite band and they turned out to be good people, which almost never happens.

This blog is the stories. Not the resume, that lives at work.patpadgett.com. The stories: the ones I tell at a bar when somebody makes the mistake of asking what I do.

I swear in here. Not constantly, but where it is the funniest word. If that is a problem, the resume site is very polite.

Every post is flat HTML. No comments, no newsletter popup, no tracking. Subscribe with the RSS feed like a dinosaur, or come back whenever. New stories arrive around noon Eastern, every few days; Start here if you do not know where to.

What is RSS?

A feed is a plain file this site updates every time a story prints. Any feed reader (NetNewsWire, Feedly, Inoreader, Thunderbird, most podcast apps) takes the address https://blog.patpadgett.com/index.xml and shows you new stories without me ever getting your email.
