Starting over at 47. The work didn't disappear, folks.

Job hunting at 47 means making a long career readable without rewriting it. Why I keep one master resume and send a smaller, truthful version of it.

A person maneuvers a tall filing cabinet through a doorway beside a kitchen table holding a typewriter.
File photoDramatization. No career was harmed.

Looking for work at 47 gets called "starting over," and I have a small objection. Twenty-five years of work didn't disappear because I opened an application form.

I know what a production system is. Getting that work into a document that makes sense to somebody with a vacancy, though... there I am again, trying to fit it into those little boxes.

Most recent employer here. Previous employer there. Somewhere farther down, fourteen years of billing mediation[1]Ref. 1billing mediation en.wikipedia.org at Sprint[2]Ref. 2Sprint en.wikipedia.org, the experience most relevant to what I want now. The chronology is accurate. It just puts the useful part halfway down the page.

At Sprint I spent fourteen years on Tier III support and root cause analysis[3]Ref. 3root cause analysis en.wikipedia.org, with on-call escalation across billing mediation platforms. I designed and led development of an EDR routing application that saved $2 million annually compared with a vendor solution. I'd like you to see that near the beginning of a mediation application, even though the calendar says something else happened afterward.

At Jabil[4]Ref. 4Jabil jabil.com I built release pipelines and automated configuration. At Raymond James[5]Ref. 5Raymond James en.wikipedia.org I worked on Linux[6]Ref. 6Linux en.wikipedia.org administration and releases in Capital Markets. Those jobs show what I can bring back to mediation, and I can explain that without burying the domain under a wall of tool names.

Handing you every detail gives you an unpaid editing assignment. I am the one looking for work here, probably shouldn't start by assigning you some.

My master resume keeps the information. I pull out what helps you evaluate me for this particular job. Two pages is the editing target I'm aiming for. That's my choice rather than some recruiting law. Anything that merely proves I've been here a long time can stay in the master.

The archive has 74 files. There's room.
